1) Who's that guy onstage?

That's singer-songwriter-guitarist, Cary Whaley. 

2) What type of music is that?

Since he's an acoustic performer, the tag is contemporary folk. Influences as diverse as David Wilcox, Pierce Pettis, Steve Forbert, James Taylor, Indigo Girls, Loudon Wainwright III and Fountains of Wayne can be found in his songs.  His friends call his music, "folk, with heavy starch."

3) You mean, he made all those songs up?

Yesiree, Bob.  He writes catchy songs that will make you laugh and sometimes think (although he seldom thinks himself).  He's written about Paul Revere, St. Christopher, mimes, baseball, cicadas, and the last day of college.

4) Wow, do you think he'll write a song about me?

Not likely, he generally writes about women he's broken up with.....and you never know what those will be like, so don't make him angry.

5) Boy, he's schmoozing with a lot of musicians, how does he know them all?

Cary studies his craft by investing in the local music community. He's the Educational Coordinator for Songwriter's Association of Washington (SAW) and has started the SAW Songwriter's Exchange, a monthly songwriter's critique and writer's forum, which he serves as co-host and booker. He's a member of other guilds, such as Circle of Faith and Focus Music.

6) Did he really date a mime?

No.

7) Does he know any Jimmy Buffett?

Doubtful.  He knows a James Taylor/Jimmy Buffett cowrite.  He sings it a capella.  I don't think that's what you're looking for.

8) Where does he play?

Coffeehouses, bookstores, open mics, songwriter's showcases, festivals, song circles and farmer's co-ops.  OK, he's never played a farmer's co-op, but it looks great on a folk music website doesn't it?  Good coffee is found where ever he plays.

9) When's the CD coming out?

Not sure.  He's waiting for critical mass to occur: quality songs, killer musicianship, talented producer, and a budget.  Einstein refers to this as: CD= s+m+p($).  So, don't hold your breath.
